About

White storks on a big nest.

About: This website

Welcome! This site aims to follow the progress of my PhD research. It will be updated occasionally with a whole variety of stuff, depending on what I am up to. My PhD is very varied so you might find me in the field monitoring White Stork colonies across Portugal during the breeding season, in the labs analysing stable isotopes and heavy metals, visiting my co-supervisor at the British Trust for Ornithology, or even on a Portuguese rubbish dump looking at movements of wintering storks!

Some of the photos may vary in quality -they are all my own pictures, some taken on my smart phone.

About: Nathalie Gilbert

I was brought up in a small rural village just outside of Colchester, Suffolk, and spent my childhood roaming the fields on foot and horseback watching the seasons change and identifying birds, insects and wild flowers from books. This gave me my passion for the natural world, phenology and migration. I am an enthusiastic naturalist and also taught myself the culinary and medicinal uses of UK native plants. I love to travel and have visited over 42 countries and lived for several years in Ecuador. When not on fieldwork in Portugal I enjoy foraging from hedgerows, gardening, reading, scuba diving, walking, cycling, yoga, astronomy and drinking real ales!
